NETSOFT NS/ROUTER CONFIGURATION OBJECTS

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
*** Last Updated 7/16/97 ***

This informational APAR contains information about the
Client Access/400 configuration objects and how they
relate to the NetSoft router.

** AS/400 CONNECTIONS ICON/PANEL (IBM) **
This is the Client Access/400 connection control panel for all
available connection providers.
Here's how it works.

o Clicking on the AS/400 Connection icon for the first time
will automatically begin the Connection Wizard. The
Connection Wizard will also start automatically if there
are no routers defined for the active environment.
o The Connection Wizard can be started with a right mouse
click in the right pane and selecting 'New AS/400
     Connection'.
o For an NS/Router Connection, this panel can be used to:
       - Start the router and license management
       - Stop license management (the router cannot be stopped
         from here)
o Desktop icons can be created from here with a right mouse
click on the AS/400 system icon and selecting 'Create
     Desktop Icon'.

** DESKTOP ICON (IBM) **
The Desktop icon is the user's 'button' (just double click) for
starting a router, license management, and a 'view'.
o The view that starts will depend upon the view selected in
the Connection Wizard (Graphical Access, PC5250, SOA,
Other, or Connect Only). The default view can be changed
     in the desktop icon's properties.
o Double clicking on the desktop icon a second or third time
will open a second and third view.
o A different view can be selected with a right mouse click
     and selecting 'View'.
o From the desktop icon, only the last view started can be
disconnected with a right mouse click and selecting
     'disconnect'.

** CONNECTION WIZARD (IBM) **
The Connection Wizard is used to configure connections to the
AS/400. It provides two functions for the NS/Router.
1. Provides an entry point to the NS/Administrator for
configuring a router instance. 2. Creates the AS/400 system
icon for the desktop and AS/400 Connections panel.
o The AS/400 system icon will only get created when 'Finish'
is clicked on the last Connection Wizard screen (panel with
     verify connection button).
o If the Connection Wizard was started from the Windows 95
desktop, then the desktop icon and the AS/400 Connection
     icon will be created.
o If the Connection Wizard is started in any other manner,
only the AS/400 Connection icon will be created. From
here, to create the desktop icon, right click on the
system icon and select 'Create Desktop Icon'.

** NS/ADMINISTRATOR (NetSoft) **
This is the NS/Router configurator panel. The left pane
contains workspaces which are nothing more that a way to
organize router instances. The right pane contains the actual
router instance or object for a selected workspace.
o A router instance can be created by clicking with the right
mouse button in the empty space of either pane and
     selecting 'New' and 'NS/Router AS/400'.
o The router instance can be configured by right clicking on
     the icon and selecting properties.
o Its a good idea to rename the router instance because each
new one created will be called 'New NS/Router'. The name
used here will not be used anywhere else.

** CONFIGURATION WIZARD (NETSOFT) **
This is the NetSoft NS/Router configuration wizard located in
the NS/Router folder. We do not have an entry point to this
wizard, but it is still possible to use it for configuring a
router instance. This configuration wizard can also be started
from the 'Tools' pulldown menu on the NS/Administrator panel.

** NS/ROUTER (Workspace name.Router name - NS/Router) (NetSoft)
This is NetSoft's control panel for a router instance. There
will be a separate NS/Router panel started for each router
instance started. From this panel you can see the system(s)
for which a router is defined, the status of the router, when
the router was started and the number of conversations.
o From this panel you can start the router connection. When
the router is started you will see the status change from
IDLE to CONNECTED. Conversations will stay at '0'.
Additional conversations cannot be started from here.
o This is the only panel where the router connection can be
     ended.
o By default, the workspace name is 'Midrange Workspace'.
